The Human Resources Office serves both the Michigan Supreme Court and Michigan Court of Appeals.  The office is housed on the fifth floor of the Hall of Justice in Lansing. 

The Human Resources director and specialists are responsible for the development and maintenance of employment programs, compensation policies, and personnel procedures.  Essential duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Office include the following: 

  • Assisting with the employment process, conducting an orientation program for new staff, developing methods for the evaluation of staff performance, and overseeing employment practices and policies.
  • Responding to and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Administering the employee benefits programs.
  • Developing and administering the Courts’ compensation program.
  • Responding to inquiries and ensuring that managers of the Courts understand the legal requirements of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Comprehensive Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Americans with Disabilities Act and its Amendments Act (ADAAA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), unemployment benefits, workers’ compensation, and other employment-related laws.
  • Overseeing professional development and educational opportunities for employees.
