The Controlled Substances Benchbook(© 2007; 384 pages) This book can be downloaded by chapter or as a single file. See below. The Controlled Substances Benchbook discusses in detail the drug offenses found in Michigan's Controlled Substances Act as well as offenses found elsewhere in Michigan law. Discussion of each offense includes applicable statutes and relevant case law. The benchbook also addresses issues that commonly arise at trials involving controlled substance offenses--search and seizure, civil forfeiture, evidence, double jeopardy, and sentencing, for example. The content in this electronic version of the Controlled Substances Benchbook is the same as the content in the printed version of the benchbook mailed to judges and select court personnel earlier this year. This electronic version of the Controlled Substances Benchbook is the first MJI publication that includes hyperlinks to statutory law, court rules, and other MJI publications cited in the benchbook's text, as well as direct links to the cross-references noted within the benchbook itself. Links to published Michigan case law will be added when MJI finalizes access to approved versions of the electronic opinions. This benchbook is a pilot for future editions of all of MJI's core publications. We welcome your suggestions on how we might improve our efforts. Please contact us should you encounter any difficulties with the hyperlinks included in the text.
