The State Court Administrative Office publishes a wide variety of brochures, pamphlets, court forms, manuals, and other similar publications for use by the courts and the general public. These materials are created by the Friend of the Court Bureau, Foster Care Review Board, Michigan Judicial Institute, Office of Dispute Resolution, and other divisions of the State Court Administrative Office as required by Michigan law and court rules or as it deems advisable. Content covers general and specific information about the judiciary, the courts, court procedures, and legal issues.

Benchbooks and Other Resources Produced by the Michigan Judicial Institute

The MJI publications team produces and revises trial court benchbooks as part of the MJI's mission to keep judges and court employees informed of the very latest developments in Michigan law and procedure. Trial court benchbooks are procedural manuals that serve as reference tools for trial court judges, court staff and trial attorneys. The benchbooks are written by MJI research attorneys and reviewed by advisory committees of judges, court administrators, court professional personnel and trial attorneys.

Most of MJI's publications are available in pdf format for easy viewing, printing, or downloading from the Internet. For a complete listing of these books, and their descriptions and pdf files, click on the links below or find them in the drop-down menu under "Resources" above.

Court Forms

The State Court Administrative Office approves and publishes court forms as required by the Michigan Court Rules, statutes, and such other recommended forms as it deems advisable. While certain statutes and court rules require the State Court Administrator to approve forms for use in specific proceedings, the use of SCAO Approved forms, when they exist, is rarely mandatory. In addition to being provided on this site, SCAO Approved forms are printed and distributed to the trial courts, legal printers, publishers, and software companies and relevant state government departments. There is no copyright on the SCAO Approved forms.
