8.9Order for Examination or Evaluation of Child, Parent, Guardian, or Legal Custodian

The court may order an evaluation or examination of a child or a parent, guardian, or legal custodian by a physician, dentist, psychologist, or psychiatrist. MCL 712A.12; MCR 3.923(B).

The privilege against self-incrimination in the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution may not be raised by a parent to prevent him or her from undergoing a psychological examination in child protective proceedings to determine if parental rights should be terminated. In re Johnson, 142 Mich App 764, 765-766 (1985).
