Michigan Adoption Day 2020

Every November, the Michigan Supreme Court encourages courts around the state to take time to celebrate Michigan Adoption Month and help make the dreams of thousands of children come true. Participating courts can choose to get involved on Michigan Adoption Day, or select their own day in November to finalize adoptions, hold parties for adoptive families, and educate the public about the adoption process.  The Michigan Supreme Court will hold their event on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Make sure you contact us with details on your court's events.  We'd love to post your photos to social media.

Michigan Adoption Day typically takes place on or about the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing and in courts around the state. Michigan Adoption Day is cosponsored by the Michigan Supreme Court, Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange, and the Child Welfare Services Division of the State Court Administrative Office.

Would your court like a Supreme Court Justice or a Court of Appeals judge to speak at your Adoption Day event?  If so, please contact Lynn Seaks.

When Michael Orlando Clark, Jr. invited his kindergarten class to attend his adoption hearing in Kent County, who would have guessed he'd become an overnight social media star!  Kent County reported almost 4 million views of their Facebook post (and 75k shares), and the MSC tweet got nearly 3000 views.  On top of that, the court and family have had intererst from CNN, CBS, and Good Morning America, so far.

Justice Markman attended the adoption proceeding and shared in the festivities.
